AAL Programme

The AAL Programme is the funding activity that aims to create better conditions of life for the older adults and to strengthen the industrial opportunities in Europe through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). It carries out its mandate through the funding of across-national projects (at least three countries involved) that involves small and medium enterprises (SME), research bodies and user’s organizations (representing the older adults).

AIT Austrian Institute of Technology

The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria’s largest non-university research institute is among the European research institutes a specialist in the key infrastructure issues of the future. AIT provides research and technological development to realize basic innovations for the next generation of infrastructure related technologies in the fields of health & environment, energy, mobility and digital safety & security. AIT enables innovation through its scientific-technological expertise, market experience, tight customer relationships and high quality research infrastructure.

ALFA

ALFA (Active Living for Alzheimer-patients) combined three different technologies: video stimulation, an interactive calendar and a GAIT monitoring system. We aim to improve or sustain mobility (walking), mastication (chewing) and cognitive functions in people with dementia. We developed and tested these technologies in homecare and residential settings, improving conditions for dementia patients by offering them personalised support through ICT. Project partners in ALFA are: VU University Amsterdam department of Clinical Neuropsychology (scientific research into mirror neurons theory and piloting video stimulation), Woonzorg Unie Veluwe (pilot partner), Alzheimer Netherlands (patient advocacy and pilot partner), EXEL (GAIT sensor development), T3LAB (e-calendar development), NoemaLife (systems integration and data management), University of Mondragon (GAIT analysis).

Amiona

Amiona is your ready-to-use software solution for service marketplaces. With its versatile appointment coordination processes and its pragmatic approach that allows providers to retain even paper-based calendars it is a flexible solution for all kind of services and providers. Furthermore, the appointment coordination functionality can be used as software as a service (via REST web services) and hence be incorporated easily in any innovative AAL solution. Amiona is used in several AAL projects, including AmCo, GeTVivid, and ActGo-Gate.

ASSISTANT

ASSISTANT (Aiding SuStainable Independent Senior TrAvellers to Navigate in Towns) project objective was to provide an accessible support for the use of public transportation. We have implemented a public transportation navigation service, which provides an online service for planning a trip and a mobile application to guide the senior citizen from doorstep to final destination.

Watcher Enterprises B.V.

The Butterfly (‘De Vlinder’) is a smart personal alarm system for seniors, which meets the need for security, care and monitoring of both user and caretaker at distance. The Butterfly is developed and produced by Watcher Enterprises B.V.

EU

At this booth, you will receive information on funding opportunities under EU programmes and more specifically under the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020. You will be introduced to two initiatives of the European Commission, the Silver Economy strategy and the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, and advised how you can join them. Success stories and good practice cases in ICT for ageing will also be showcased via videos and printed brochures.

ExpAct

The ExpAct project aims at fostering and supporting older people in following occupations by offering their first-hand professional and life experience. By sharing their experience, they make a valuable long-term contribution and stay engaged in society.

exthex GmbH

exthex GmbH is an innovative company from Graz, Austria which aims fill the gap between research topics and the long way to create a product with a sufficient market approach. We have know-how in e-Health regulations, processes, technologies and market needs. Therefore, we are able to complement high-risk research and give this research an economical benefit and use-case in the future e-Health environments. One of our main research areas is the field of Active Assisted Living, where we aim to support people with innovative, mobile solutions in their lives and simplify collaboration and interaction with relatives and health professionals even over temporal or spacial distances. In our current AAL-JP project DALIA we aim to provide an integrated home system based on a personal virtual assistant, that supports and empowers older adults to live independently at home and care for themselves for as long as possible. Exthex will commercialize DALIA as a service under the brand name EMMA together with care organisations in the german speaking market, aiming to extend to other European countries soon.

Flanders’ Care

With an annual budget of +300 million euro, the Agency for Innovation by Science & Technology (IWT) is the knowledge hub for innovation and R&D in Flanders. Together with five provincial front offices – the Innovation centres -, a wide range of services for Flemish industries is provided, such as financing innovative technologies, facilitating cooperation among SMEs, coordinating research networks and managing international funding schemes. Flanders’ Care wants to improve the provision of quality care and to promote corporate social responsibility in the care economy in a demonstrable and innovative fashion.

Fraunhofer

Located in Portugal, Fraunhofer AICOS focuses its activity on Ambient Assisted Living and on ICT for Developing Countries. In so doing, Fraunhofer AICOS uses its expertise in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Processing and Autonomic Computing to enhance people’s access to ICT and, with it, their living standards by offering intuitive and useful technology solutions.By embracing a Living Lab approach, and backed by research in highly advanced applied technology, Fraunhofer AICOS is able to deliver solutions which are co-created with end-users and thus ensure great user experience, usability and usefulness. The combination leads to solutions which act as ‘companions’ for people’s everyday lives, following the motto ‘Remarkable technology, easy to use’.

Health NCP Net 2.0

Health NCP Net 2.0 (HNN 2.0) is a European project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme that is aimed at aligning and enhancing the services that National Contact Points (NCPs) for the Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing Societal Challenge (SC1) provide to applicants of European funding for Health research across Europe and worldwide.

iHomeLab

The iHomeLab of the Lucerne University of applied Sciences and Arts is the Swiss think tank and research lab for building intelligence. Together with more than 20 scientists and over 200 industrial and commercial partners we conduct funded applied research in the fields of AAL, energy efficiency and human building interaction for commercial as well as residential buildings. To sensitize and bring together the different stakeholders, the iHomeLab hosts numerous events, workshops and takes actively part in scientific conferences standardisation bodies.

iMinds

iMinds – the digital research and incubation center of Flanders, Belgium – combines the strength of its 900+ researchers at five Flemishuniversities to conduct strategic and applied research in areas such as ICT, Media and Health. Together with its research partners (companies, governments and non-profit organizations), iMinds translates digital know-how into concrete products and services. In addition, iMinds supports researchers, young entrepreneurs and start-ups in the successful market introduction of their ideas.

Instituto Pedro Nunes

Founded in 1991, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) – Association for Innovation and Development in Science and Technology – is a non-profit private institution for public benefit. It promotes innovation and the transfer of technology, establishing the interface between the scientific and technological system and the production sector.

Geneva School of Economics and Management

The Information Science Institute (ISI) is a research institute under the “Geneva School of Economics and Management” of the University of Geneva. As a team of 30 staff members, we are active in basic and applied research, technology watch, Technology transfer, creativity and teaching. We are currently participating in research (EU/Cost/Swiss funding) and industrial technology transfer projects in domains as diverse as: AAL, Health, Augmented Reality, Information Security, Mobile sensors, Robotics, Big Data and Predictive Analytics.

Microsoft Innovation Center Flanders vzw

Microsoft Innovation Center Flanders vzw (MIC) is a not for profit, private/public co-operation between the Flemish government, Microsoft, the cities Genk and Kortrijk and some private organizations. It has as its mission to optimize the healthcare market through innovative ICT solutions. MIC provokes innovation from zero till start-up. Every ICT start-up with an application for the healthcare market, can ask for an intake with 1 of the coaches to become part from MIC, and take advantage from the network, ecosystem, business and technical coaching.

ProMe

The ProMe project, to develop an ICT solution for supporting occupation in the life of older adults, is developing an integrated platform for intergenerational mentoring & coaching activities. The platform will be demonstrated at the AAL Forum 2015, and we encourage as many delegates as possible to visit our stand, trial our system and give us your feedback.

ReAAL

The ReAAL booth will demonstrate in a comprehensive view the benefits of using open platform in the Active and Independent Living domain by showing a selection of piloting initiatives involving 6000 users from nine European countries in real life.The ReAAL booth will exhibit a selection of AAL, eHealth; social applications… built on the Top of the Semantic Open Platform universAAL in order to have a good impression of the benefits of building on top of open platforms.

StayActive

The StayActive project aims to reduce the loss of productivity and health-related costs of elderly workers by supporting effective stress management, through the access to personalised services with biofeedback, recommending healthy work habits and relaxing biofeedback games by means of an ICT-based solution which includes a Wearable Biosignal Monitor.

UC

Research on affordable robotic systems able to adapt their services to elderly needs over time. Towards an innovative and sustainable Ambient Assisted Living.

Andrássy University Budapest and the University of Innsbruck

The Andrássy University Budapest and the University of Innsbruck have been involved in several innovative user-centric AAL-R&D-projects. The project variety includes the development of web-based matching platforms for various needs of older adults (e.g. managing senior experts’ projects or volunteer work), interoperable personal protection and caring systems and large scale testing of AAL-solutions in pilot regions.

VictoryaHome

VictoryaHome monitors your health and safety, facilitates social contact, and creates peace of mind. The VictoryaHome services do not depend on automated functions, but empower family and friends and bring immediate human presence when needed. The system is now being tested by 40 families in 4 countries in Europe.
