Young Researchers Workshop

The Young Researchers’ Workshop 2014 will take place between the 9th and 10th of September, 2014 in the Palace of the Parliament, Bucharest, Romania.

The Young Researchers’ Workshop is part of the Ambient Assisted Living Forum 2014 and the participants will receive free access to the rest of the Forum. The AAL Forum 2014 is hosted and organized by the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI) and Ministry of National Education (MEN) at the Palace of the Parliament between the 9th and 12th of September, 2014  (the full programme of the Forum here).

This year’s theme addresses the role of entrepreneurship in the development of technological innovation for elderly.

The Organizer

The League of Romanian Students Abroad (LSRS) offers an open framework for dialogue and action to Romanian students and graduates of universities around the world by forming a strong community and facilitating their contribution to Romania’s long-term development. It has been established in 2009 and nowadays counts on a total number of over 8.500 members (students and graduates) in over 50 countries.

Center for Accessing the Expertise of Students and Alumni from Romania (C.A.E.S.A.R.) is a think-tank that reunites Romanian experts from all over the world, with high-level academic background and remarkable results in their field of work, and acts within The League of Romanian Students Abroad (LSRS).

C.A.E.S.A.R.’s purpose is to consolidate the Romanian experts community into a joint and long lasting project, aimed at the sustainable development of Romania. C.A.E.S.A.R. is a framework for young researchers, a space of recognition for Romanian experts from home and abroad, and a platform of knowledge in priority areas for the future of Romania.

The Concept

The workshop will bring together leading successful entrepreneurs, experts from various fields (research, business, technology, innovation, elderly care, marketing), investors and young researchers.

During the first day the participants will have the opportunity of being coached by professionals on their submitted ideas and projects and to receive feedback and mentoring on different topics such as business intelligence, marketing, business plan writing, pitching and networking to help them prepare for the second day presentation.

The second day of the workshop will be conducted as demo day, where the participants will be presenting their business plan through a 5 minutes pitch in front of a panel of experts from different areas of expertise and investors, followed by a 5 minutes Q&A session.

Objectives

To identify practical solutions for improving the life of the elderly, through contribution of young researchers and support of experienced entrepreneurs and professionals in the field.

To develop a network of collaboration between entrepreneurs and young researchers form all over the world, working in this field. This network will serve thus to promote practical solutions identified in the workshop.

To identify specific projects (new products and services) that contribute to the development and support of careers, families and care organizations for elderly.

Submissions

The Young Researchers’ Workshop is open to participants from all over Europe, young researchers under 35 years old and in the first 5 years of their career, that hold at least a Bachelor degree in different academic disciplines: engineering, architecture, IT & computers science, psychology, sociology, nursing sciences, geriatrics, and economics.

Candidates may submit their ideas in a group or individually and their business or product ideas may present concepts belonging to a variety of themes such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, software or hardware solutions addressing one of the three challenges regarding the role of technology in supporting elderly:

  • The role of technology in the social life and mental health of the elderly
  • The role of technology in providing healthcare and assistance to the elderly
  • The role of technology in ensuring social inclusion for the elderly

All applications must be submitted by 10pm on Friday, 22 August 2014. Receipt of entries will be acknowledged by an e-mail confirmation.

Participants

Experts, entrepreneurs and researchers from different fields including business, technology, innovation, elderly care, marketing, economy, social problems and entrepreneurship.

Representatives of public institutions in the field of education, labour and youth, as well as representatives of the business sector will be invited to attend the workshop.

Young researchers and entrepreneurs from different academic disciplines (engineering, architecture, IT & computers science, psychology, sociology, nursing sciences, geriatrics, economics) with at least bachelor’s degree up to PhDs and junior post-docs.
