Introduction
The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) organises an annual platform for the increasing European AAL community to meet and discuss several topics, relevant for improving the AAL JP as well as the adoption of AAL solutions in the market. Most new ICT-related products and services for independent living are still in a developmental phase, undergoing pilot experiments and based upon supporting subsidies. Only a few are mainstreamed and can be considered successfully implemented.
The main themes of this years’ Forum are:
- EU, and National Policies;
- AAL Projects: outcomes and future;
- From research to business: delivering innovations;
- Cutting edge ideas
Therefore, the AAL Forum 2012 will support the following necessary future developments in AAL:
- Development of strategies in order to transfer successful products and services between the different nations;
- Enhance existing and create different approaches to integrate end users more effectively;
- Develop test methods to improve the reliability and sustainability of potential AAL products and services;
- Increasing the awareness of the potential of ICT for different AAL communities;
- Development of sustainable business models.
Core Values of the AAL Forum 2012
We expect every participant to BRING and to GET! It means that the each registrant will be encouraged to be very active at the forum.
In summary, the core values for each participant at the AAL Forum 2012 will be enclosed in FIVE i’s :
Information, Inspiration, Imagination, Interaction and Innovation
The international organising committee will set a framework for enabling these achievements.
How To participate
The AAL Forum 2012 invites many organizations with different background, profiles, services and businesses to participate. At the Forum, which will become one big market place, we will highly stimulate new meetings between all participants, all interested in the same: bringing about a real change in Ambient Assisted Living.
On June 22, there was a deadline for the Call for Contributions. We received more than 135 abstracts for oral presentations and 11 proposals for a special 90 min. session or workshop. The abstracts and proposals are being evaluated. A limited number of presentations can be held in dedicated sessions. Topics will include AAL middleware and solutions, cognitive impairment, e-health and self care, mobility, fall prevention, designing with people, ethics, robotics and others.
But there will be many other ways to participate actively in the AAL Forum 2012:
If you are an SME, that is about to launch a new AAL product or solution on the market, please make use of the AAL Venturing sessions. Here, investors are happy to listen to your market proposition and give feedback. Even, they might consider to invest in your company if you need further money to grow. We will be happy to help you making such a pitch. Please, inform us if you would like to participate in these AAL venturing sessions actively, but do so before 20 July.
For all, whether or not invited for an oral presentation, please also make a 2,5 min. video for uploading to this website. This will allow you in any case to present your work, results and solutions to a wide audience, before and after the forum. Furthermore, we will have the video’s being permanently displayed in small theatres at the Forum. If you are not able to make a video yourself, we will offer you to make one for you on September 24 in the afternoon, free of charge, but please mail us if you like us to do so.
Then, there is still the call for Questions. Please, let us know, which particular questions you have and would like to have answered at the Forum.
There will also be a free speakers corner in a dedicated place in the exhibition area (nothing needed now)
Finally, you are also encouraged to present yourself in a small stand at the exhibition. Taking part in the exhibition is possible at very low cost: if you would like to present an AALJP project, you will get 2 free registrations and all stand material will be included. But also, if you are working in FP7 or Interreg projects or just active as a company in this area, being at the exhibition will give a high exposure. A special networking event at the exhibition will be organised on the early evening of Tuesday 25 September. Also lunches for all registrants will be served at the exhibition.
Abstract/video on your questions
Describing or videotaping your questions will be highly recommended. The International Committee will make a selection out of the best abstracts and ask them to be presented in a session on futural AAL topics or future policies.
But also, we might publish your contribution on the website and start a discussion. It will certainly deliver a rich stack of information for ourselves and future policy makers.
Your questions may include typical problems such as:
- Why can there not be house cleaning robot?
- Why does the AALA (ambient assisted living association) not stimulate more market driven projects?
- Where is the attention for the low educated professional care worker that needs more help in using ICT?
- What about reimbursement of AAL solution.
- Etc., etc.
Please send your abstract to: AAL2012@smart-homes.nl
