Posters Presentations Day One
Be sure to visit the poster presentation sessions taking place during the 2018 AAL Forum to hear about some of the latest advances, developments and topical discussions in active and healthy ageing.
Across the two-day event there will be 35 poster presentations, categorised by either one of three themes:
- Theme 1: Life after AAL – Ensuring AAL solutions getting to the market
- Theme 2: Business to consumer market: The silver economy dimension
- Theme 3: AAL-related eco-systems
The 10-minute long presentations will take place during the morning coffee breaks (from 10:30 – 11:00) and the lunch breaks (12:30 – 14:00) on the Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be two digital poster presentations happening at the same time so that the posters in theme 2 and theme 3 will be taking place on Tuesday 25 September, and theme 1 and rest of theme 3 will be taking place on Wednesday 26 September.

ICT-based solutions for everyday facilitations in shopping management and navigation
Ideable Solutions
This presentation will look at the AAL project IONNA, which offers an integrated solution that combines various services that can be found in different applications. Based on users’ requests we have put together projects that for different reasons did not hit the market and fulfil their full potentials – apart from IONNA. It can be incorporated into everyday life, it is personalised and takes into consideration the life span of the project. This ICT-based solution will contribute to enhancing the quality of life of older adults and other citizens in multiple dimensions.
Theme 3
Mobile technology health management for patients with severe mental illness – a feasibility pilot trial
East London NHS Foundation Trust
The aim of the poster is to present the results of this pilot study, which is exploring the feasibility and the potential clinical benefits of an enhanced community care intervention that uses an interactive simple technology-based communication system called Florence. The SMS messaging tool helps with medication, appointment reminders and daily, individually-defined wellbeing scores and requests. The presentation will look closely at the results and conclusions from this analysis.

Safety at home thanks energy consumption
Fresh Energy
Fresh Energy is an AAL project and their poster will go into detail about the project which aims to address the matters of taking care and paying attention to elderly people in their homes, forecasting anomalies and risks after analysing their electric consumption patterns. Fresh Energy uses algorithms based on machine learning to generate electric consumption behaviour patterns, analyses them and offers a chance to predict risks and to reduce intervention time in elderly homes.

Converting old-style apartments into age-appropriate apartments with IoT including socio-cultural connection
Generation 65 Plus Gmbh SwissBuildTec Alliance
SwissBuildTec Alliance will be presenting a project which has come out of this alliance and which converts old-style apartments into age-appropriate apartments with IoT and including socio-cultural connection. Unique to this project is that partial competitors work together to step into the AAL market through smart home solutions. Because of this new interest, the alliance is looking to learn about the added value of their solution in combination with emergency calls and other features for the older market, with the target of living longer autonomously at home.

Go Global in the Silvery Economy

The poster will be asking the question: How can we support companies in developing relevant digital product and services for the Silver Economy market? Each group in the Silver Economy has a function within this ecosystem that revolves around the elderly, but they also each have needs which can be fulfilled through relevant digital products or services. The project will show how they have supported each one of these groups in the Silver Economy value chain for better development.
Theme 3
EMPATHIC virtual coach: opportunities based on EMPATHIC technologies
Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU)
EMPATHIC is an AAL research and innovation project that will research, innovate, explore and validate new paradigms and platforms for future generations of personalised virtual coaches for independent living at home. It will use remote non-intrusive technologies to extract physiological markets of emotional states in real-time for online response and aim to engage will users on an emotional level to avoid loneliness, sustain healthiness and enhance quality of life. The outcome will lead to young entrepreneurs collaborating to take advantage of the project’s results.

Carelink – Innovative Personal Tracking for people with dementia. Responding to complex market needs

The core mission of the AAL project CARELINK is the development of a smart, adaptive, low cost solution that positively manages dementia patients who wander. Unlike other products on the market, the poster will reveal how CARELINK stands out in the marketplace by using AI the predict when a wandering event may occur. The presentation will look at, how it went about delivering a market-fit solution; the initial hypothesis; user driven development process; the learnings and outcomes.

Co-creating value in smart living eco-systems through personalisation
Santer Reply SpA
The poster, based on the AAL project PersonAAL, will present a participatory and collaborative process in which end users, domain experts and developers contribute their expertise at various stages in co-creating software artefacts to obtain meaningful results for real life scenarios and address concrete user needs. The PersonAAL platform empowers users to specify personalisation features as future products and services will centre around personalised co-creation experience at the heart of a sustainable collaborative partnership ecosystem.

“Orientatech.eu”: Your social technologies advisor. Learn how to validate your product before going to the market
Fundacion Tecnologias Sociales (TECSOS)
The poster presentation will look at Orientatech and how it aims to encourage participation and provide access to verified information related to the purchase, acquisition and use of technological products that support personal autonomy and active ageing. The project is materialised in the website www.orientatech.eu, which publishes analyses of social technology products tested by engineers who are experts in social technology and volunteer end users, in order to carry out technical verification and social validation of the products.
Theme 3
Dispatching and management centres for optimisation home care integrated services
INSCC Bucharest
The poster presents a project developed by the National Communications Studies and Research Institute from Bucharest in cooperation with SME’s in Romania called Dispatching and Management Centres for optimising home care integrated services. The project proposes a software and hardware platform that aims to assist home care providers in order to optimise their activity and increase the quality of the services they provide. The project integrates some AAL features, as several hardware and software components are designed to be integrated in the living environment of the assisted elders.

The SAAM Project: Supporting active ageing through multi-model coaching
Balkan Institute for Labour and Social Policy
Presenting the SAAM project, which is developing a Virtual Assistant-Coach that assists older adults living at home, their poster will discuss the project’s core idea: many older users do not want to interact with a virtual coach and so interactive elements need to be designed that encourage more natural communication. SAAM uses virtual unobtrusive and privacy-preserving approaches through machine-learning techniques to generate dynamic personal activity profiles and coaching actions. Monitoring will focus on: mobility, activity, sleep and social activity.

Smart Generations: Importance of ICT in all 4 phases of life with regard to active & healthy ageing
Generation 65 Plus Gmbh
Smart Generations will be presented in the poster and is a project that deals with ICT in all four phases of life as currently digitisation contributes to an improved quality of life however, it is also presenting enormous challenges for both government and businesses, educational institutions and consumers. Based on the four phases of, the project has considered focus topics with a view of ICT: Talent development; industry 4.0 and Work 4.0; Orientation of the portfolio of companies in the silver economy; Extension of the phase of autonomous life (AAL).

An integrative tool for cognitive remediation in health and diseases
University of Duesto, Spain
Based on the understanding that several programs and attempts have been proven to deal with the impact of cognitive decline and an increasing risk of developing a neurodegenerative illness, the presentation will look at the RehacoG programme. It has high potential to be implemented in the general population and so the poster will look at its characteristics, how it can be generalised across the elderly population in a simple but effective way, as well as the opportunities it holds for health and social institutions with resources approved by the scientific community.

Feasibility study protocol to evaluate the usability and user satisfaction of a TV-based assistive integrated service for people with mild dementia or mild cognitive impairment and their caregivers
IBIMA
The presentation will discuss this study which is part of the European multicentre randomised controlled trial, “Evaluation of the efficacy of a TV-based assistive integrated service to support European adults living with dementia”. The poster will highlight the aim and methodology of the AAL project TV-ASSISTDEM, for example, the evaluation of the platform in the participant’s (mild dementia or mild cognitive impairment) home environment through requests by researchers to perform different tasks to explore each functionality, as well as the evaluation analysis process with results helping to improve the TV-ASSISTDEM prototype.

STAGE’s value proposition – addressing the silver market with an ICT cultural platform
ASM – Market Research and Analysis
STAGE is an AAL project and the poster aims to present a value proposition of this platform as a case study for discussing the elderly consumer segments and their role in the silver market. The presentation will discuss how to address the consumer segment and increase the adoption of silver solutions, as well as maximise societal impact through delivering services that are based on in-depth analysis of user needs, expectations and requirements. ASM will propose an original methodological approach to distinguish between user needs, expectations and requirements.

Tele-POSE – Telemedicine pre-operative assessment to improve peri-operative outcome in the super elderly
European Society of Anaesthesiology
Looking at the dramatic population growth over the next 30 years and this will add even more strain on the pre-operative assessment waiting times for elderly adults. This poster will be presenting the project Tele-POSE, a telemedicine app which aims to enhance patient empowerment, reduce pre-hospital admission time and provide patients, physicians and key stakeholders with broadly generalised, clinically applicable information and pathways to improve patient outcomes in the 80+ category.

Thematic network SHAFE – Smart Healthy Age-Friendly Environments
AFEdemy Academy of Age-Friendly Environments in Europe
As people wish to age in their own homes for longer there needs to be a high-level of crossover discussions between different groups, networks, DGs, EIPs and international organisations in order to align technological development with the building industry for smart environments, in terms of policy and funding, for a more efficient health care system. The project SHAFE aligns with EU health priorities in creating these synergies that will increase quality, innovation and sustainability towards economic growth and sustainable health systems.
